The derby is divided into age groups: 7 & under, 8 to 11, 12 to 16, and 17 & over. With over 1,000 trout in Orchard Lake, the family fishing derby offers a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere where every child gets a chance to participate. Numerous trophies are awarded throughout the day in various categories. Each angler is allowed to keep one fish, and any additional trout over 2 lbs cost $15.99, while those under 2 lbs cost $5.99. Bring your own rod or rent one – no license is needed. Rain or shine, this event marks the start of the fishing season.
